Ever slipping NAV 5.1 release

The issue of shipping enterprise software releases is highlighted again by news on the release date for Microsoft’s Dynamics NAV (aka Navision) 5.1. Some time ago I blogged how the release had been postponed, now I read that the release date will be in February 2008 … they hope.

This new release will have some significant technology changes, including support for 3-tier architecture (which NAV didn’t have before). As Gaspode comments:

I guess that’s the thing with any radical new technology shift for ERP products. Evolution makes better products than revolution.

But it sounds interesting – the MIBUSO site has a preview.

An ERP product that is released though is SYSPRO 10 SP1. I received the SYSPRO’s customer day invite, and see that the CEO, Phil Duff, is talking. I’ve met Phil a couple of times and I imagine his personality is similar to Bill Gates – very bright technically and very astute business-wise.
